Creating space to listen, grounded in Scripture read prayerfully and consistently.
The Book
A 30-Day Devotional on Hearing and Obeying the Voice of God
by Dr. Kwesi Gyimah
"Nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net."
— LUKE 5:5, KJV
Say Yes Anyway walks through thirty days of Scripture — from Noah and Abraham to Mary, Peter, and Paul — meeting men and women who heard something unreasonable-sounding from God and obeyed anyway. The journey moves through four movements: Hear Clearly, Discern Wisely, Trust Deeply, and Obey Courageously. Each day pairs a short Scripture reading with honest reflection, a practical next step, a journaling prompt, and a closing prayer.
"This book is about that moment — the space between what you understand and what God has made clear."

From the Back Cover
Build an ark. Leave the familiar. Step out onto the water. None of these instructions came with a plan or a guarantee of safety. In Say Yes Anyway, Dr. Kwesi Gyimah walks with you through thirty men and women in Scripture who heard God's call and obeyed anyway, and helps you test what you sense and take the next faithful step.
Inside

Part One — Hear Clearly
Read: Genesis 6:13–22
Try to picture it: a man in his hundreds, standing in a field that has never once seen rain, being told by God to build a massive, ocean-worthy vessel. There was no dark sky on the horizon. No meteorologist warning of a coming storm. No precedent in human history for what God was describing. Just a voice, a set of blueprints, and 120 years of hammering while the world watched and mocked.
I think about Noah every time I'm tempted to wait for confirmation before I obey. We like our promptings validated — a sign, a second opinion, a "coincidence" that lines everything up neatly. But Noah didn't have any of that. Hebrews 11:7 tells us he was "moved with godly fear" and built the ark "by which he condemned the world." His obedience wasn't a reaction to evidence he could see; it was a response to a God he trusted more than his own eyes. That's worth sitting with. How many of us have shelved a prompting simply because it didn't come with proof attached?
There's something else worth noticing: Noah didn't build the ark in a single afternoon of inspired zeal. He built it over decades, one plank at a time, likely enduring ridicule the entire way. Solomon wrote that "whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow" (Proverbs 13:11) — and though he was speaking of savings, the principle holds for obedience too. Obedience to an unreasonable-sounding prompting is rarely a sprint. More often, it's a long, quiet, faithful labor — one plank, one day, one small act of trust — that only makes sense once the rain finally starts to fall.
I've watched this play out in the lives of people I pastor. The couple who felt led to adopt didn't wake up one morning with a finished family — it was years of paperwork, prayer, and patient waiting. The young man who sensed a call to plant a church didn't launch overnight — he spent five quiet years serving faithfully in someone else's ministry first. God's ark-building is rarely glamorous while it's happening. It only looks like faith in hindsight.
Choose one small act of preparation you can faithfully complete today.
Is there something God has asked you to prepare for, even though you can't yet see the reason why?
Faithful obedience often begins long before there is visible evidence that it makes sense.
Lord, give me the courage to keep building even when no one else sees the storm coming. Let my obedience be evidence of my faith in You alone, one faithful day at a time.

The Power Behind Your Yes
You have surrendered. You have answered the call. But now the path is uncertain, and obedience is asking more than you expected. In Unleashed, Dr. Kwesi Gyimah explores what it means to live in dependence on the Holy Spirit after that first step of faith — the next book in the Say Yes Anyway series.
“The power is not in your yes. The power is in God. So when you reach the door — knock.”
